About the National Institute of Mental Health

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders. NIMH is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest biomedical research agency in the world. NIMH envisions a world in which mental illnesses are prevented and cured. Its mission is to transform the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses through basic and clinical research, paving the way for prevention, recovery, and cure.

About the Opportunity

The Visiting Fellows Program permits international postdoctoral fellows with the opportunity to conduct research and train at the NIH. Prior to their arrival at NIH, Visiting Fellows are provided with a handbook from the Division of International Services that contains information about many aspects of life in the United States, including what to bring, housing (there is no housing provided by the NIH), child care, local facilities and services, and community and cultural resources.
