The American Evaluation Association’s Evaluator Competencies Framework (AEA, 2025) makes it clear that a competent evaluator in 2025 is knowledgeable about a wide range of evaluation approaches and theories of practice, and knows how to select and implement evaluation approaches and theories appropriately (Professional Practice Domain; Competency 1.3). This course is designed to help participants think critically about approaches and theories of evaluation practice, and to understand the evidence that has been generated through Research on Evaluation to shape the approaches and theories of contemporary practice. As generative AI tools like ChatGPT have become increasingly integrated into evaluation teaching and evaluation practice, they will be used to enhanced the human instruction and provide participants with a deep and more an advanced understanding of evaluation practice and the profession of evaluation.
